Guidelines for Entrepreneurs

When you are matched with a mentor, you make a team. They bring their experiences and you bring your dreams.

Together, you can make those dreams a reality. Please remember that these mentors are from a different culture. Be patient and honest with them. Give as much information as possible so they can find the best ways to help you build your business.

As an entrepreneur, you should:

1

Be honest about your goals and dreams

While you should have an open mind to their ideas, it is your business and only you know what you want to achieve.

2

Help them understand your community and culture

Only through hearing what you share will they be able to give you the truly helpful guidance you seek. It is ok to tell you mentor if they say something that is not appropriate for your culture.

3

Try to be on time and professional

We know that life happens. Remember that the mentor might be working in a different time or even awake in the middle of the night to talk to you. Please be on time and prepared for meetings.

4

Be committed

Do not give up easily. Try to find ways to overcome challenges with the help from the mentor.

5

Ask questions

Do not be afraid or embarrassed about any areas where you are not sure.

Ask questions and get answers, then ask another question.

6

Document the process

This is a journey. Keep records, photos, data and metrics to show growth and tell the story of your business.

7

Do not ask for money or help with things like visas or medical treatments

This will make the mentor uncomfortable.

Their main job is to provide advice.

If they offer, that is different. Be careful not to ask them to make promises they cannot keep.

8

Follow ethical and sustainable business practices

Do not pursue business ideas that cause harm to individuals, the community or the environment.
